For 19 years, Yzerman was so much more than our dog. He was family, a constant companion, an adventurer, a cuddler, a foot-licker, a face-kisser, and a source of unconditional love through every season of our lives.

Yzerman’s early years were spent in Minnesota, where he was born and loved his big fenced-in backyard, his backyard deck, the neighborhood kids (and other dogs), neighborhood bonfires and all the activity around him. One of his favorite things was finding the perfect spot where he could lay half inside and half outside, never quite choosing between home comfort and fresh air. He was also right at home with the guys in the man cave, watching Red Wings hockey (he was named after Steve Yzerman) like he belonged there as much as anyone.

When our family made the move to Washington State, Yzerman didn’t just adjust. He thrived. He put on more miles than most humans, joining us as an avid hiker, camper, wilderness explorer, road-trip partner, and daily walking companion. He loved being outside, loved meeting other dogs on walks or at dog parks, and even found joy on the water, whether kayaking or paddle boarding. Wherever we went, Yzerman was ready to come along.

He always seemed to know he had a place with us, whether it was at the table (on the table), on a chair, or in one of his favorite spots: the hammock. He had an adventurous spirit, but he was also incredibly gentle, cuddly, and sweet. He brought warmth into every room, humor into everyday moments, and love into our lives in a way only he could.

Yzerman gave us 19 beautiful years of loyalty, joy, adventure, and unconditional love. Saying goodbye has been incredibly hard, but we are so grateful for the life we shared with him and for all the memories he gave us.

He was our dog, our companion, our explorer, our snuggle buddy, and one of the great loves of our family.

We will miss him forever. Rest easy and happy trails sweet Yzerman. You were so loved.
