In Memory of Our Beloved...

Happy

  Happy

This is a Happy doing his favorite thing.....keeping close watch on a squirrel.  Happy was my mentor, my hero, my protector, my friend and we were always together.  I miss him so much right now and I am in such pain.  I rescued him from the SPCA and I think he always knew it.  He loved car rides, swimming, going for hikes, sitting in the warm sun, playing ball and he knew every tree that had a squirrel in it.

Happy

It has been a month now since Happy died.  We have his ashes sitting on our mantel (that was  tough day going to pick them up).  They came in a beautiful urn and the staff at the hospital also surprised us with a clay cast they made of Happy's paw.  A wonderful gesture.   We are still grieving, although the pain isn't as sharp.  I am allowing myself to feel his loss and not trying to push those feelings away.  We have even been able to laugh at some of his antics we remember.

We who choose to surround ourselves with lives
even more temporary than our own
live within a fragile circle, easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps, we still
would live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only certain immortality,
never fully understanding the necessary plan......
